We believe our site is better than many of the others that are out there because of the accuracy of our data, GPS maps, advanced sorting features, and easy to use interface. We have not yet found another site that makes finding campgrounds in Oregon this easy. This guide will show you exactly how to use our site and find what you are looking for, as well as how to contribute to our community.

Completing our free registration process makes you a member of our site and provides access to additional features that guests do not have. These include the ability to rate and review items, create and share photo galleries, post in the forums, use the "Favorites" feature, and much more.

Registering is simple and easy. Just click here, fill out the form, and submit it. You will then be sent a confirmation email with a link to activate your account. Simply click on the link, or if it is wrapped in your email, copy and paste both parts into your browser's address field. After that, you will be able to login and access all of the member features.

The Map:
By default, the map (and the campground list below) is limited to a maximum of 50 campgrounds. This amount can be decreased, but not increased using the "Items Per Page" feature.

There are 3 ways to zoom in and out of the map as follows:
  1. Use the slider bar on the left side of the map.
  2. Double click on the map.
  3. Place your mouse pointer on the area of the map you wish to zoom in or out of, and use your mouse wheel.
Our site also features 2 advanced features that allow you to target specific areas. Checking the "Redo Seach When Map Is Moved" option changes the map to only show the campgrounds in the area visible on the map when zoomed in. The campgrounds will update as you move the map or zoom in/out. The other feature is the "Draw Search Area" checkbox. Checking this will place a highlighted square on the map, and will only show campgrounds within that square. You can change the size and shape of the square, and move it.

Link Sorting:
One of the features that really sets our site apart is our link sorting capabilities that can make finding what you are looking for much easier. Link sorting allows you to reorder the campground list by name, rating, or hits (popularity). This feature is located just below the map and works in conjunction with the map features discussed above.

Our filtering section is the most powerful and useful part of our site. The filtering is used to show you campgrounds that meet various criteria you are looking for in a campground, and this feature also works in conjunction with the mapping and sorting features. Below are important notes about each filtering section.
  • Camping Types: This section allows you to select the type of campground you are looking for. For example, if you checked the Group Camp box, only campgrounds that offer group camping will show in the list and on the map.
  • Geography: This section allows you to show campgrounds in specific geographic regions or having specific geographic features. For rivers, lakes, waterfalls, etc., the feature must be AT the campground. For example, we do not count a campground as "Waterfront - Lake" if the lake is nearby. The campground must be on the lake.
  • Features: This section lists the available amenities you wish your campground to have. Again, the amenities must be on site, not nearby.
  • Activities: Just like above, the activities must be on site. For example, you are pretty much always near fishing or hiking, so it wouldn't be particularly useful if we didn't do it this way.
  • Access: This section describes the available ways to get to the campsites.
  • Number of Campsites: This section is useful for determining the size of the campground. Typically, larger campgrounds offer more amenities, but less privacy and more noise. These types of campgrounds might be better suited for families with children, whereas smaller campgrounds might be better for those who wanted a quieter, more private camping experience.
  • Maximum People Per Site: This section is mainly to be used when looking for group campsites in order to make sure it can accomodate the number of people in your group. For best results, check all boxes that are over the number of people in your group. For example, if there are 32 people in your group, check 31-40, 41-50, and 51+ which will return all campgrounds large enough to accomodate your group.
  • Maximum Trailer Length: For you RV'ers, this will let you know if your rig will fit. Please note that it took a lot of research to get this information, however, it may not be 100% accurate. If in doubt, please check with the campsite authority ahead of time, and let us know if we are wrong. Just like above, check all boxes that are the same or larger than the length of your RV.
  • Elevation: This may be useful if you are camping in the colder months and want to be at a lower elevation in hopes of milder weather. Conversely, you might select higher elevations in the summer to beat the heat (note that this may not work well in eastern Oregon). You may also, for example, be planning to do some hiking and want to avoid doing it at 7,000 feet.
  • Availability: This will help you determine which campgrounds might be open at the time you are planning to go. Keep in mind that campground opening and closing dates are subject to weather, and change every year. This section is most effective for finding campgrounds that remain open in the off seasons.
To remove the filters you have selected, click on the "Reset Filters" buttons.

For this section let's take a look at a sample listing from our directory.

On the first line we have the title of the item. If you click on this link, you will be taken to the detail page for that item, which will contain more in depth information about the campground. Between the title and the rating stars may be some small icons as follows:

N = New
P = Popular (Highly rated)
H = Hot (Most visited)
Crown icon = Editor's Pick
Heart icon = Added to your favorites (more on this below)

In the example above, this place is Hot and Popular.

The last thing on the first line is a series of stars which represent our users' ratings of the item. If the stars are all gray, the item has not been rated yet. In order to add your review, you will need to login and click the "Add Review" link that is shown at the bottom of our example (this link is also available on the detail page).

Favorites Feature:
Once you have logged in, you should see your user menu on the left hand side of the page. Most of the features listed here are self-explanatory, however, we do want to provide a quick explanation of the "My Favorites" feature. This is a powerful tool that can be used as a trip planner to essentially "bookmark" places that you wish to visit on your trip, or it can be used as a travel scrapbook to keep track of places you have been during your travels. Initially, when you click on this link, you will get a blank page. As you browse through the site and add campgrounds to your favorites, they will appear here. You can also remove items from your favorites on this page or at the campground's location in our directory.

Every page on the site has a search box located on the left side of the page. For a simple search, just enter your terms and click the search button. The search results will include matching campgrounds, articles, and forum posts that match your query. When entering search terms, you can try the campground name, nearest city, road number, body of water, etc.

The search feature supports the +, -, and " characters. If you are not familiar with this type of searching, you should learn it as most search engines support it as well. It is the best way to narrow search results.

Adding and Updating Campgrounds:
If we are missing a campground, you can submit it by clicking on the Add a Campground link here, or on the homepage. Please fill out what you can and we'll do the rest. Typically this process will take 24-48 hours.

If you need to update our information about a particular campground, go to the campground's detail page, scroll down to where the address information is listed, and click the "Update Our Info" tab. Fill out the form and we'll research your submission and make any necessary changes.

Get Involved!:
We believe that we have created a superior campground site here, however, it will only be as good as our community of members makes it. For starters, your reviews will make the site infinitely more helpful to fellow campers. Please take the time to review the places that you have been and add places we are missing.

Another big help is to let us know when our materials are out-of-date or contain errors. It's a big and constantly changing world out there, and it can be difficult to keep things current.
